Leanne
Grabel is an amazing writer, performance artist and teacher
who has a deep rapport with teenagers. She was funded by RACC to
work with teens at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Center. For a unit on color, she
brought me in to teach a printmaking technique. The students
wrote poems about colors, then cut shapes out of card stock
representing the metaphors in their poetry. After gluing
them to mat board, we rolled ink over the compositions and
pulled prints. I later scanned them in and produced
a series of posters combining each person's print and poem.
The process was exciting; the writing and artwork illuminating.
